TRAINING TOMORROW'S OCEAN GUARDIANS
PLEASE HELP US TO RAISE
R450,000 / €22,000 / $26000
INTRODUCTION
Imagine a young person with no job, no skills, no opportunities, no hope, feeling like their future fate is already decided.
Now imagine that person receiving the opportunity to becoming a swim instructor, a lifesaver, a marine science ranger, a commercial diver, a boat skipper, and an ocean awareness ambassador, not just within their community, but working for reputable organisations, locally and abroad, making a significant ongoing contribution to global ocean conservation.
This isn’t a dream, it's a proven reality thanks to our amazing supporters and the Oceans Alive Conservation Trust Training Academy.
We are asking for your help to raise R450,000 / €22,000 / $26000 so that we can continue this life-changing work for young South Africans, training, mentoring, equipping, and providing many underprivileged young people a future by turning their passion for the ocean into purpose, skills, and real job opportunities.
WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO?
The Oceans Alive Conservation Trust mission is twofold, to work to conserve the marine environment and to uplift people and change lives.

Over the past five years:
-
We have trained dozens of individuals to become lifesavers, commercial divers, marine science rangers and skippers.
-
Many of our students, who started out with no skills and no future prospects, have gone on to work with communities and for respected companies and organisations, locally and abroad, working at police search and rescue, aquariums, commercial diving and salvage companies, research organisations and marine wildlife conservation facilities.
-
We don’t stop at training, because experience is key to success, so we also provide work experience opportunities, research opportunities, work placements, and assistance with work preparedness.

We believe that ocean and marine wildlife conservation without community awareness, community participation and trained community based conservation people, is almost impossible.
A healthy ocean needs ocean guardians and a healthy society needs opportunities, and these two are deeply connected.
WHY WE NEED R450,000 / €22,000 / $26000
This funding will enable us to:
-
Scale up our training and enrol more students in lifesaving, commercial diving, and other conservation programmes.
-
Provide additional training facilities, programs, materials and equipment, such as dive gear, safety equipment, scientific instruments, underwater camera's, underwater drones, and additional training aids.
-
Support work experience placements, supervision, work preparedness and providing students with real opportunities.
-
Cover instructor costs, student attendance costs, travel costs, accommodations costs.
-
Retain experienced service providers, instructors, trainers, and logistical support operations.
Without this funding, fewer young people will have access to these significant life changing opportunities.
The gap remains large, many are talented, many are passionate, many are ready, but opportunities like this are lacking.
OUR IMPACT TO DATE
Here are just some of the real-life life changing transformations we’ve made possible:

-
Graduated students with no previous income or employment prospects are now working as commercial divers, lifesavers, boat skippers, and marine science rangers for leading organisations locally and overseas.
-
Many of our commercial divers are employed in aquariums, and in underwater conservation work, scientific research projects, salvage and other related underwater operations.
-
Graduates who once had no hope of a decent future and couldn’t see beyond their immediate surroundings, are now productive members of society, working, travelling taking up overseas opportunities for further training and employment. (USA, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES, SAUDI ARABIA, NEIGHBOURING AFRICAN COUNTRIES)
These are not isolated stories, they are proof that when we invest in people, change and conservation awareness ripples outward to families and communities, and our marine ecosystems have benefit.
WHAT YOUR SUPPORT MEANS
By donating, you’re not just contributing funding towards a project, you are investing in future hope and ocean action.
Here’s how your support will translate:
